Part of my Writing for Nonprofit Organizations class is an internship. My internship is with Rape Crisis Intervention Service and every spring they host an event called Walk A Mile in Her Shoes (also known simply as “Walk A Mile”).
Walk A Mile takes place every spring as a fundraiser for RCIS. The concept of the event is for men to walk a mile through Westminster in high heels to raise money and awareness of sexual assault.
Companies like Buffalo Wild Wings and other restaurants and businesses put together teams to raise money. Every year, McDaniel brings teams of faculty members, the football team and other organizations. McDaniel also does a lot of volunteering with the event. Last year, McDaniel raised the most money for the event. This year the fundraising will continue into May so the final total will be posted by the time we leave for summer.
It’s a great organization to support and an awesome event to be a part of. I have loved being a part of every step of this event this semester. I hope they raise more money than any other year and I am excited to go into my internship on Thursday when everyone is still excited over the success of the event.
