As I have mentioned, I am a senior and plan to graduate this coming May. My major is Exercise Science and I am minoring in psychology. I plan to take a year off from school and then go back to grad school in search of my Ph.D in Physical Therapy.
I have always had an interest in Physical Therapy and am very happy I chose this route. Sometimes it is extremely stressful and time consuming but I wouldn’t want it any other way. One of the prerequisites for PT grad school is to complete 150-200 volunteer/internship hours. This may seem unrealistic at first but it really is not. For insistence I did an internship through school and received 135 hours in one semester.
I wanted to talk about my Internship a little bit. I completed my hours at Life Fitness Physical therapy and absolutely loved it. The head PT that I worked with did a great job of giving me responsibilities and helping me when I did not understand something. He explained everything to me and often quizzed me on things to keep me on my toes. The Physical therapy assistant and I became really good friends and she is helping me look into grad schools.
Internships are a great way to get started in your field and have the necessary experience you need to continue in it. The CEO office here at McDaniel does an amazing job with helping you find the right fit for you. They even will help you with your resume if you feel as though you need it.
All in all I am extremely happy with the major I picked and the career plan I have. If you have the chance to get an internship get one! Also, Love what you plan on doing. One of my favorite quotes “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life”
