This is been one of the busiest weeks of my life in recent memory. (I know I’ve had weeks just as busy if not more so, but I try to suppress those details!)
I’ve spent the past week laying out a 12-page print issue of the McDaniel Free Press to commemorate the graduating class of [...]
Yesterday was William Shakespeare’s birthday (and incidentally, his death day), so the English department celebrated in the most entertaining way possible: by hosting its annual Shakespeare in the Square.
Shakespeare in the Square is a fun event (complete with a large birthday cake) held for all students to attend in Red Square, the center of [...]
On Monday night, I had the chance to go to a networking event organized for the English department and the Center for Experience and Opportunity (CEO) called “What can I do with an English Major?” The event featured a panel of six McDaniel alumni who were English majors when they went to school here.
The English department is busy this month, so it’s an exciting time to be an English major!
On Thursday, this year’s issue of McDaniel’s literary magazine, Contrast, was finally unveiled! Despite the fact that the magazine did not show up (the printer did not deliver the shipment in 48 hours as promised), the event was [...]
Tonight was very unique. A guest lecturer and poet, Lia Purpura, read tonight at the annual Bothe lecture, a lecture held every year in honor of Judge Elsbeth Levy Bothe of the Maryland Circuit Court who donated generously to McDaniel in support of the arts and passed away this past March. Normally lectures like [...]
I love college and I love McDaniel college. But one of my least favorite things ever is coming back to campus after Thanksgiving break to wrap up fall semester. I have a lot of things that I need to work on over the next two and a half weeks. For the most part, these papers [...]
Day one back from break has been eye opening and somewhat fear inspiring. With only two weeks left in the semester, students can be filled with both the relief of seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, and the stress of the fact that finals are only two weeks away. Also factoring [...]
The recent focus in my Literature by Women class has been plays. In the past two weeks among many plays, I have read two excellent plays that particularly caught my attention; each author depicting a different color in the struggles of African American women in the 1960s. A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry [...]
Now that the blog is officially live, I thought this would be a great opportunity to welcome you all and introduce myself a little. I’m glad you’re here, especially if you’re considering attending McDaniel!
My name is Annie, I’m a sophomore, and I’m an English major with a writing minor. I’m also a very proud [...]
It’s been a little of this, a little of that for me over the past few days, which is pretty much reflective of how I try to live my day to day life at McDaniel. (It makes things more fun!)
On Sunday evening, I went to the year’s first meeting of the Honors Club, the [...]
