The Beauty of Rain

Rain is generally pretty miserable. It’s not much fun to go to class or Glar with wet socks and wet hair, or to stand outside in the rain for about five hours watching people throw, jump, and run, which I did at my track meet yesterday (I also threw, but they cancelled the women’s pole vault). Of course, that also required sitting in wet clothing for the three-four hour bus ride back to campus.

However, I find the rain beautiful and refreshing at the same time. It’s nice to open the window in my dorm room and let the cool air in for the night, and to have the calming patter of the raindrops coming into the room, which helps me sleep. It’s also nice to turn my face and palms to the sky when it’s drizzling. I’m not sure why, but I find that extremely calming and pleasant.

Although, I have to say that my favorite thing about the rain right now is that it’s not snow.

Update: Is has, in fact, snowed today. My preference for and ability to see the beauty in rain still stands.

Snow again? Weather, please, no more games!

The universe is against me. I really thought winter was over. I heard Maryland weather has never been like this before. Snow, just stop it. Yes yes I know I loved you when I saw you for the first time here, but you are getting the timing wrong! Your role is over, let spring come, please. Look what you are doing to this poor bird and its nest. Every morning I love watching and listening to this bird chirping happily right outside my window. Don’t ruin it, please.

New Westminster Favorite: Sweet Frog

My friends and I have a new favorite place here in Westminster. It is Sweet Frog! For those of you who are not familiar with Sweet Frogs, they are frozen yogurt places…the type with all of the yummy toppings! They opened up a Sweet Frog here in town a couple months ago and we LOVE it. Sweet Frog is great when you want something sweet and it is fun because you get to make your own creation. It is pretty inexpensive too; the most I have spent on a cup is about $4!

We started out by making Sweet Frog only a “special occassion” kind of place. We went there for my friend’s birthday and for one other celebration, but it is just too delicious! We can’t stay away! It is probably a good thing that it just opened up and we are seniors, because we would go there way too much. We are going to enjoy it while we can though, considering we are under 2 months until graduation!

If you are looking for a yummy treat, I definitely recommend Sweet Frog. You won’t regret it!

Rain rain go away

As many of you have either seen or heard, McDaniel is a beautiful campus during all four seasons. I don’t think I could pick my favorite season but during the fall I love seeing all the colors changing and during the spring I love to see all the flowers and colors resurfacing. That’s not to say campus isn’t beautiful during the winter and summer as well!

To get to my point….today (and a few previous days) it has been raining here in Westminster. The campus is still full of life and you will still see people out and about, but I will not be one of them.

This doesn’t mean I cannot enjoy my day! I will be working on homework, catching up with my roommates about each of our weekends, and enjoying my day inside to catch up on things I haven’t done in a while. Rainy days are perfect for this! As much as I love spring and the sun, I just want to be outside while it is sunny and nice.

All in all, I might not enjoy the rain as much as others, but I still find things to do and keep myself entertained.

On a side note; I met up with a younger friend from home who is looking to come to McDaniel. We went to Birdies cafe on Main st and just chatted about some of my favorite things at McDaniel. It was great seeing her and I hope she makes the choice to come to McDaniel and have as many wonderful experiences and I have.

Spring Rolls and Jump Rope

Last night, I went to Vietnamese Night for the Asian Community Coalition (ACC). It was amazing as usual. The ACC has put on some pretty awesome Asian culture nights, but this one by far has been my favorite. We had noodles and fried banana; however, the best part was the spring rolls.

Okay so you all probably don’t know this about me, but my favorite food of all time is Vietnamese spring rolls. I have not been able to find anything like the ones I have had in Cali since I have been on this coast, but these were perfect and delicious!

We also learned about games played during festivals and games children play. There is one game for girls that is played by picking up sticks and bouncing a ball; it reminded me of jacks.

Children also play jump rope differently. It involves jumping in and out of two ropes together. I remember trying to learn it when I was little. It was cool to see the differences and similarities between cultures.

I had such a wonderful time, and I cannot wait to eat some more great food while also learning about the culture.

AWESOME FOOD!
