It’s been a while since I’ve introduced myself, so now that my fifth semester at McDaniel has wrapped up, I have plenty of time to let you know about me and what’s the latest in my McDaniel life.
I’m Annie Brown, and I’m a junior English major and writing minor who concentrates her studies on rhetoric and internet discourse. I also spend six hours a week working as a peer writing tutor at McDaniel College’s fabulous Writing Center, a place where McDaniel students of all disciplines can go to get free writing help. And on top of all that, I’m the features editor of the McDaniel Free Press, McDaniel’s student newspaper.
You might be thinking to yourself, “Wow! That’s a lot of English!” And while that’s true, I’m not limited to just “English major stuff” at McDaniel.
Because McDaniel is a liberal arts college, I’ve taken classes in a number of disciplines, which have included math, sociology, and philosophy. (And yes, I did enjoy taking classes in those things!) I’m also a member of McDaniel’s Honors Program, which once gave me the opportunity to take a class in Jungian psychology, which led to one of my peers and me giving a presentation on archetypes and alchemy in Harry Potter to the Baltimore Jungian Working Group.
When I’m not busy with my academic life, people at McDaniel can find me chilling in Glar, our dining hall, with my friends, and blogging from English Major Humor, a tumblr I created for fun last Jan Term that currently has over 6,800 followers.
I lead a fun and intellectually satisfying life at McDaniel, and I hope you’ll enjoy some of my McDaniel stories!
